Dehydrated Sourdough Starter
Did you get my cute little packets of dehydrated starter and need to know what’s next… How do you bring your dehydrated sourdough starter back to life?
Tips-
Water: Room temp and filtered
Flour: unbleached bread flour
Day one: Place dehydrated starter in to a clean glass jar add 3 tbs of water and stir well. Once all is combined let it rest for one hour before feeding. Add in 2 tbs of bread flour stir well. Cover and keep the mixture in a warm place. The optimal temperature is 75-80F. If it is cooler in your house I have found keeping it in the oven with the light on helps!
Day two and three: After a full 24 hours it is time for another feeding! This feeding will be 2 tablespoons of flour and 1.5 tbs of water, you will want a thick consistency commonly noted as a thick pancake batter. Stir well and let rest covered in a warm space.
Day four: Time for a bigger jar! Add mixture and 1/2 cup of flour and 1/4 cup of water. Slowly add in more water if necessary to again get that consistency to that of a smooth but thick pancake batter.
Day five: Same as day four, add 1/2 cup of flour and 1/4 cup of water. Slowly add in water if necessary to get that consistency to that of a smooth but thick pancake batter. Bubbles should appear 4-6 hours after feeding and resting in the warm space.
Once your stater is doubling 4-6 hours after feeding YOU ARE READY TO BAKE
Feed daily to keep baking, discard half of what you have in the jar prior to baking.
